I know the class was big business in the summer. I never had a professor email me the basis of the class in the summer. That showed dedication and a caring side to Marlen. Other professors usually would be out enjoying their summer. In the email it said the class was hard, if you’re a slacker this isn’t the class for you. I was a total slacker and procrastinator at that time, but I wanted a change. I never back down from scare tactics. I said I’m going to man up and take the class, just to see where I’m cut at in the college world.
It was a lot of work, but how the class is set up; theirs was always time to catch up. I always thought an email of more work would come so I always got the work done right after the class was over. I knew what to expect due to the real good detailed syllabus. I stayed ahead of the game, for example if it was a weekend coming up I would do 2 or 3 blogs just to stay ahead. The poems were a way for me to express myself so I was eager to complete them. I liked the way the class was set up. It really looked liked you took time to establish the class.
I loved the discussions. It gave the class the opportunity to express themselves. Most of the group talk, there really wasn’t a right or wrong answer so it made it easier for the class to participate. I enjoyed the groups; it gave me the chance to meet more people from different backgrounds and places. We all talked about the class and what we thought. We had fun in our group.
The classroom scene was more like a family; we knew each other’s name. In other classes you barely recognize classmates outside of class. The way the class scene was made it more comfortable and easier to be active in an 8:00 class. You just knowing all our names made it more fun.
The class sheet thing was new to me, no teacher ever had those. The bonus points made people participate more. It also made people actually learn more. The sense that you can get bonus, provoked people to want to learn. I can be an excellent and get three points a day was awesome.
The way the tests were set up was cool. They weren’t hard at all, as long as you did the work at hand. It showed in the answer who did what. That kept people on their toes, because they didn’t know when the tests were coming. It raised the attendance majorly, especially for me. It’s 8:00 in the morning and I never thought twice about missing class, too scared about missing a test.
I like that movies were shown. It gave the class a different twice. It wasn’t just any movie; it was relevant to what we were learning at the time. It helps make what we were learning a whole lot easier to understand. All the movies were good it wasn’t any boring movies about World War 2, they were interesting.
I liked that the class was hard at the beginning; it makes it good at the end of the semester. When you get your grade you really can feel like you earned your grade. In other classes professors just give you a good and you know you didn’t earn it, so you don’t have that great feeling inside. This is one of the classes I can honestly I learned a lot. I been in classes that if you ask me a question about it now I couldn’t tell you. The class was based on our lives, learning who we are. I learned so much about myself this semester due to the class. It was a total wake up call. I found out some good things about me and some disadvantages I have to fix.
You were one of my favorite professors; you made the class relatable to our everyday lives. I think everything the class is about shouldn’t change; only the strongest survive. This was a great learning experience for anyone who wants to be a teacher, because you have good learning and teaching techniques.
